Optimization Process for Primary + product (Up to 1.5Mbps/128kbps)
The optimization tool takes three data sample readings from the ISP end-user's line beginning one day prior to the Due Date requested for end-user service activation (DD -1). Additional readings are taken on the Due Date requested (DD), and one day after the Due Date (DD +1). These readings can only be taken if the end user has installed their DSL modem equipment.
If the data collected indicates that the line can sustain a higher speed, then the ISP end-user is provisioned on a DSLAM broadband profile supporting speeds of up to 768kbps/128kbps on DD +1.
Additional data sample readings are taken on DD +2, DD +3 and DD +4. If the ISP end-user's line can again sustain a higher speed, then the line is placed on a profile supporting up to 1.5Mbps/128kbps. If the ISP end-user leaves their modem on, the entire process can be completed on DD +5.
If during this process the optimization tool determines the ISP end-user's line will not sustain a higher speed, the end-user will remain at the current speed.
The optimization process is complete when the ISP end-user's line has been provisioned to a profile of up to 1.5Mbps/128kbps or when the optimization tool has determined the ISP end-user's line cannot sustain a higher speed.
Optimization Process for Primary product (Up to 384kbps/128kbps)
The optimization tool takes three data sample readings from the ISP end-user's line beginning on DD -1, DD, and DD +1. These readings can only be taken if the end user has installed their DSL modem equipment.
If the data collected indicates that the ISP end-user's line can sustain a higher speed, then the line is provisioned on a profile supporting up to 384kbps/128kbps.
Important Information
ISP end-users with loop lengths greater than 12k ft will be initially provisioned with a DSLAM profile that will sustain a fixed rate of 192kbps/128kbps prior to the optimization process commencing.
To ensure efficient optimization, the ISP's end-user should leave their modems on for at least the first 10 days of service after the Due Date.
The optimization tool will attempt to capture the required data for 30 calendar days after the Due Date or until the optimization process is complete. If, after 30 days, the required data cannot be captured mechanically and/or the optimization process cannot be completed, the ISP end-user's line will be referred to ASI's Data Service Center to manually implement the optimization process.
ISP end-users with loop lengths less than or equal to 12k ft are initially provisioned with DSLAM profiles reflecting the purchased Primary (up to 384kbs/128kbs) or Primary + (up to 1.5Mbps/128kbs) speeds.

Customer Self-Installation means just that - you set up your own DSL service. By choosing this option, you can hook up your computer and modem, and then register your service yourself. We'll provide you with the instructions - and technical assistance is just a phone call away. With self-install, you pick the installation time that's best for you!
Self-installation requirements are:
- Install in-line filters pre-existing phone jacks
- Install NIC card or USB adapter and DSL modem
- Setup and configure software for PPPOE connection
- Setup and configure browser
- Pentium processor, 166Mhz or faster
- Windows 98, 2000, Millennium, NT 4.0, XP, or Vista, or MAC O/S 7.6 - 10.x
- Internet browser (Netscape or MS Internet Explorer)
- CD-ROM
- 25Mb of free disk space
- 32 Mb of RAM
Customer Self-Install DSL makes use of customer-installed low pass microfilters for each line analog device (typically telephones, fax machines, etc). The intent of the filters is to filter out any DSL signal noise from your voice service, allowing both voice and data to share common inside wiring. These filters are placed between the analog devices and the phone jack(s) and do not require any tools for installation.
Availability of customer self-install is dependent on your distance from the DSL gateway (length of the telephone line facility, not street miles or air miles). In addition, you must have a telephone line qualified to carry the DSL signal. Click here to send us your full address and telephone number. We'll qualify your address and let you know if DSL is available in your area. Customer self-install is not available if you have (these are technician install only):
- a laptop
- an alarm or medical monitoring service on the line where you want DSL service
- rotary dial service on the line where you want DSL service
- a Centrex, PBX or Hunting service
- Windows 3.1 or UNIX / Linux operating system at this time. Linux operating systems are compatible, but not yet supported.
